Southwark Fighters win Muay Thai debuts in Camden Show
This past weekend duo Cyrus Fan and Darnell Hooper, both fighting out of Jackapong Muay Thai, convincingly won their debuts against keen opposition at the Retribution Fight Night in Camden.
Coming in as the second fight of the Main card, Cyrus took on a game Luke Deery.
Starting off strong Luke sought to press his advantage with a barrage of punches, however Cyrus took the fight to the clinch, hammering knee after knee into his opponent. As the end of the first round loomed, a strong knee to the diaphragm took Luke to the ground, the impact of which was made only stronger by the resounding cheers from the Jackapong corner.
Luke Deery failed to get up by the Referee’s ten count and the victory went to Cyrus Fan as a Technical Knockout in the first round.
Several fights after Cyrus and Luke, Darnell Hooper looked to continue the streak of success for Jackapong against the taller southpaw Darren Owoh.
An exchange of blows signalled the beginning of the first round, with Darnell’s head kicks forcing Darren into brief defensive spots, only for the southpaw to bounce back with short bursts of punches. Taking initiative, Darnell forced Darren into the clinch and dominated him with strong knees. This continued for the remaining rounds in the fight, however Darren Owoh found some success with sidekicks and his pressure punching.
The final bell tolled, both fighters shook hands, and the unanimous points victory was awarded to Darnell Hooper.
The celebration was loudest from a corner of the event taken over by the Jackapong Muay Thai class, all cheering on their friends and training partners and screaming for their victory. Shouts of “He’s hit me with that one before!” and “Come on give him the knee!” rang throughout the hall of the London Irish Centre. The atmosphere was truly exciting, made lively with loud music and even louder cheering. The night came to a fruitful close as everyone gathered round the two fighters to slap them on the back and congratulate them on two hard fought victories.
