The Sound of Fury vs. Whyte

There’s only one Fury!

Being there in Wembley stadium was a night to be remembered. A stadium of that size, filled with 94,000 drunk and joyous fans, is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lives.

I managed to scrape a seat not too far from the ring. Close enough to see the action but still some way away, I had to stand up straight to see the pink bald head of Fury as he weaved from Whyte’s haymakers. Everyone could see that Whyte did his best to walk down the champion but to no avail. The elated screams and cheers of the crowd anytime Fury’s jabs found their target were deafening. Just as deafening as the deplorable boos when Dillian made his move.

However aside from the cheers and the music, one other sound stood out to me – imagine being thirty, maybe forty metres away from the ring and hearing the occasional sting of leather felt nearly impossible. The force of Fury’s punches reached me like the sound of a tennis ball sent across the field in Wimbledon. It’s a little silly to admit really but for a moment I lost myself and tried to understand whether I really did hear that venomous sound of leather against skin. Aside from the bombastic entrance of both fighters, their performances, and the amazing atmosphere of the stadium crowd, I will forever remember the sound of Fury’s punches. That is what sticks for years ahead.
