Lion Fight 71: Results
Lion Fight 71: Overview
Lion Fight 71 features another series of exciting title fights, with Jakub Benko's first title defence against Joe Boobyer. Jakub Benko's upset over the previous Cruiserweight World Champion makes him a big threat to the division, and Joe Boobyer looked to prove his worth against the new Champion.
Other notable fights include Jake Peacock's first title defence against Niall McGreery, the latter being a late sub for Sevket Cerkez, who could not make it for the fight. Peacock has finished all five of his Lion Fight bouts with K.O.s/T.K.O.s and will looked to extend his record further.
A true David and the Goliath, Kwangtung Realfighter faces off against the towering Alex MacGregor for the European Middleweight Title. MacGregor is exceptionally tall for the Middleweight division, standing at 6'3", and will prove a challenge to the short and stocky Kwangtung.
Jakub Benko vs. Joe Boobyer (Lion Fight World Cruiserweight Title)
Jakub Benko wins this bout via Knockout in Round 2.
Both fighters had experience training in Thailand, which came out in the slow and thoughtful first round as each fighter tested the waters. Round 2 started with a flash of action, as both fighters rushed in long boxing stances to out-strike each other. Boobyer was downed for the first time in Round 2 by a heavy leg kick, and downed again for the final time soon after.
Jake Peacock vs. Niall McGreery (Lion Fight European Super Welterweight Title)
Niall McGreery wins this bout via Unanimous Decision.
Peacock struggled against McGreery's range control and simple yet effective techniques. Peacock did not have the space to work as he did in his previous bouts, although he capitalised on many counter opportunities and strong kicks, however McGreery kept his range and outscored the English native.
Kwangtung Realfighter vs. Alex MacGregor (Lion Fight European Middleweight Title)
Kwangtung Realfighter wins this bout via Knockout in Round 4.
MacGregor dominated the first three rounds, utilising his height to keep the significantly shorted Kwangtung at a distance. Using long knees and constant elbows within the clinch, MacGregor seemed to have won the bout until Kwangtung turned it around with a brutal right hook near the end MacGregor downed in Round 3, and downing MacGregor again in Round 4 with a liver shot that earned him the title.
Chris Donaldson vs. Dan Tracey
Dan Tracey wins this bout via Knockout in Round 1.
Tracey opened the round with a three piece combination – a body shot, cross to the body, and a brutal left hook that knocked out Donaldson in the first 17 seconds of Round 1.
Anton Austin vs. Zak Chabira (Lightweight)
Zak Chabira wins this bout via Decision.
The first round was rounded with a huge left hook from Chabira, forcing Austin into a standing eight count. Austin came back in Round 2 and forced Chabira to go on the defensive with constant elbows and high kicks. Chabira forced Austin down in Round 5 again, but the latter returned with the same vigour as the rest of the fight, fighting until the end.
Charlie McGhee vs. Hadji Jethe (Super Middleweight)
Charlie McGhee wins this bout via T.K.O in Round 4.
McGhee was forced on the back foot in the first round, as Jethe pressured McGhee with long knees and elbows. Having adjusted to Jethe's style, McGhee focused on body kicks and scored two downs in Round 3. Going into Round 4, McGhee brought Jethe down with brutal downwards elbows.
